As many of us know Sonic Mania is going to be released sometime later this year for the Nintendo Switch. The cool thing about Sonic Mania is that its going to highly resemble the older 16 bit games within the Sonic the Hedgehog series. While many people yearn for the nostalgic 2D platforming gameplay of the Sonic series they would probably ask themselves whether or not Nintendo plans on doing the same thing with Mario. The Super Mario series first became popular during the 8 bit era of gaming on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the 80’s. During the early 90’s Nintendo gave us some pretty cool games such a Super Mario World which was probably one of the best 16 bit games within its series. Even though, the Super Mario series has done arguably better than the Sonic series in the realm of 3D gaming many people loved the classics from the 16 bit era of gaming.

The older Mario titles for consoles such as the Super Nintendo were both innovative and creative in areas such as level design and gameplay. If Nintendo ever decided to make a new 2D Mario game with 16 bit graphics it would definitely be something that would appeal to the older generations of gamers who grew up during the 90’s. As it currently stands most of the 3D Mario games on both the Wii and the Wii-U are doing great in terms of worldwide sales. There are games such as Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Bros U that are simply amazing in terms of visual and quality gameplay. Even though, making a new 16 bit Mario game for the Nintendo Switch would sound cool in theory it would probably be a while before a decision is made on such a project if there is one.
