Its hard to believe that its been ten years since Mighty No. 9 was released for consoles like the PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. Mighty No. 9 was game that was heavily hyped after it received around $4 million in crowdfunding. Might No 9. was published in many countries by Deep Silver and co-developed by Inti Creates and Comcept. There were many people who felt that Mighty No. 9 was going to be a big deal prior to its release due to how similar it was to Capcom’s Mega Man series. Initially, most gamers thought Mighty No. 9 was going to be the second coming of Mega Man. If anything Mighty No. 9 was a game should have been the modern day spiritual successor to Mega Man but unfortunately it failed to live up critics desired expectations. When it came down to graphics Mighty No. 9 looked too campy and felt bland along with having a somber tone. The opening theme for Mighty No. 9 reeks of Y2K nostalgia and has a melancholy tone to it.

The rest of the soundtrack for Mighty No. 9 especially that of the first stage and the boss battles were better than the actually gameplay. The story for Mighty No 9. was also boring in comparison to Mega Man. In Mighty No 9. players controlled Beck a combat android to stop the other machines that have been corrupted by a mysterious computer virus to save the world. In Mighty No. 9 Beck is not even battling real enemies he is mainly battling against allies who have been compromised. Also, the Beck character felt like an uninspired rip-off of Mega Man just like Call was seen as a copycat version of Roll in someways. Nobody really cared about Beck’s creators Dr. White and Dr. Sandra and the level designs for each stage in Mighty No. 9 looked lifeless.

If the creators of Mighty No. 9 really wanted to make the game look more interesting they should have went with 8-bit or 16-bit pixel art graphics to connect with indie gamers who were fans of retro gaming. Mighty No. 9 had a disappointing launch considering how it cost millions and only appealed to a niche audience of gamers who ended up trashing the game following it release. It should also be noted that at one point a Mighty No. 9 anime was supposed to debut following its announcement at the Anime Expo in 2014. The unexpected cancellation of the Mighty No. 9 anime was a result of the game being a massive failure. Mighty No. 9 was a game that had a ton of potential prior to its release. The feeling is that there were several missteps from the creation to the promotion of Mighty No. 9 which lead to the game being a disaster. In general 2016 was considered to be horrible year and Mighty No. 9 if anything was just a product of its era.
