
It seems like gaming fans are furious at Sony’s latest announcement regarding the shut down of Bluepoint Games. Everyone knows that Sony acquired Bluepoint Games back in 2021 and since then the studio has been behind several high profile video game remakes. Bluepoint Games has been responsible for Shadow of the Colossus, Demon Souls, Gravity Rush, Metal Gear Solid and God of War remakes in the past. The closure of Bluepoint Studios is something that caught many people by surprise and unfortunately at least 70 jobs ended up being cut because of Sony’s decision. The strangest thing about the shut down of Bluepoint Games was that the studio had a close relationship with Sony for more than a decade prior to the acquisition. In fact, Bluepoint Games worked on high profile titles such as God of War: Ragnarok for the PlayStation 5 from 2022.

One of the most heartbreaking facts about the closure of Bluepoint Games is that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the studio which was founded in Austin, Texas back in 2006. Also, it was heavily rumored that Bluepoint Games planned on launching a live-service project in the future before it allegedly got cancelled. Bluepoint Games is expected to officially shut down in March 2006 but Sony’s sudden decision has left a bad taste in many people’s mouth. The closure of Bluepoint Games seems unlikely to have anything to do with financial losses or poor quality in relation the remakes being produced. Based on numerous online reports Bluepoint Games has more to do with a with the industry becoming more challenging due to higher demands. In this day and age development costs are higher and the cost of gaming is constantly increasing which can contribute to slower growth for various gaming companies.

However, there is a ton of skepticism within the gaming community for Sony justifying their decision to shut down Bluepoint Games. There are many people who believe that shutting down Bluepoint Games was a slap in the face to the gamers and the industry as whole. So many believe that Bluepoint Games closure was more of a management issue opposed to a strategic business move which makes the whole situation frustrating. The devastating news regarding the closure of Bluepoint Games has lead to many people boycotting an upcoming Bungie live-service title called Marathon. It seems like the gaming industry is slowly becoming more dystopian and there is no question that people are very unhappy about it.
