It seems like Warner Bros gaming division future is uncertain due to the company’s $82.7 million deal with Netflix. Its clear that Netflix that is more focused on streaming and movies opposed to gaming. Also, its publicly known that Warner Bros gaming division has been losing millions of dollars due to failed video games like Suicide Squad: KTJL, Multiversus, and Gotham Knights. In last decent game that Warner Bros has released was Mortal Kombat 1 from 2023. While Mortal Kombat 1 was a commercial success reaching over six million copies in sales it still sold significantly less than MK11 from 2019. Also, Hogwarts Legacy came out in 2023 and it was one of Warner Bros most profitable video games of that year. Hogwarts Legacy generated at least $1 billion in revenue during a year that was filled with high profile video game releases which is impressive. As good as 2023 was it seems like everything Warner Bros has been involved with related to gaming has declined significantly.

There are many who would argue that Warner Bros ruined DC and that Batman and Harley Quinn’s popularity has suffered because of how bat the Suicide game from 2024 was. Its should also be noted that Warner Bros had cancelled a Wonder Woman game in early 2025 which is shocking since its was first announced back in 2021. Along with cancelling a Wonder Women game Warner Bros ended up shutting down three studios which included Monolith Productions, Player First Games and WB Games San Diego. It was reported that Warner Bros. Discovery ended up losing around $384 million in 2024 with the company having a sharp decrease in revenue roughly under 50%. It seems like Warner Bros has been doing everything they can to rebuild Superman as the main attraction within DC Universe. During the summer of 2025 we got Superman Legacy which was a box office success and a Superman animated series which has been running on Cartoon Network since 2023. While Superman has been involved successful movie and television shows within the past few years its seems like Warner Bros wants portray him a heroic light once again.

But its very difficult to view Superman as a one dimensional paragon superhero after the Injustice series which has dramatically altered the public’s opinion of the character during the 10’s decade. The last Injustice game we got from Warner Bros was in 2017 and ever since than the world has been waiting for a sequel. It was rumored back in mid-2025 that Injustice 3 was in early development but nothing has been confirmed by Warner Bros. If the merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery finalizes its possible that the gaming division could end up getting cut because of its financial losses. However, Warner Bros plans on restructuring their gaming division by focusing more on their most popular IP’s like Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat and DC. Its seems like their will be more pressure on Warner Bros. Games to put how more superior video games compared to what we got between 2024-2025 after the Netflix merger finalizes.
