Its been more than fifteen yearas since Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans was released on the Nintendo DS. Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans was an RPG that came out during a time period when the DBZ franchise was starting to feel a bit repetitive in terms of video game storytelling. Towards the late 00’s especially 2008-2009 Naruto was starting to become more popular in anime and with gaming with the start of the Ultimate: Ninja Storm series. During the 2000’s we had already saw games like the DBZ Budokai, Budokai Teckaichi and the Legacy of Goku series. DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans felt like another approach to redo the first Legacy of Goku game from 2002. The original Legacy of Goku game was considered to be a bad game with a memorable soundtrack. The storytelling in the first Legacy of Goku game was poor and fighting mechanics felt broken. In this game players could control a variety of different characters in Saiyan saga opposed to only Goku. In DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans players can also choose characters like Gohan, Krillen, Piccolo, Tien and Yamcha. While Legacy of Goku felt like more of an action role-playing game DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans was more of a traditional turn-based RPG.

In this game players can level up the stats of each character. The story for Attack of the Saiyans starts at the 23rd Marshal Arts Tournament which gives the storytelling more depth than the original Legacy of Goku. DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans had various popular names who were bosses in the game including Jackie Chun, General White, Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta and even Broly as a secret boss character. Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans had better visuals and sprites than what we saw in the Legacy of Goku series and had an impressive user interface. There are many who would argue that Attack of the Saiyans was one of the last decent handheld DBZ games that we got during the 2000’s decade. DBZ: Attack of the Saiyans was definitely a game that got overlooked and does not get nearly as much credit that it deserved. A spiritual successor of Attack of the Saiyans focusing on the Namek Saga would have been interesting during the early 10’s.
