Its hard to believe that its been 20 years since Batman Begins was released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. Batman Begins was a underrated gem that came out during the mid 2000’s but it also got overshadowed by many massive IP’s that also appeared on the PlayStation 2. The Batman Begins video game came out the same year the film released. There are people who believe that the Batman Begins game was better than the film itself. The Batman Begins film was the prelude to Christopher Nolan’s iconic Batman: Dark Knight movie from 2008. It should also be noted that the Batman Begins video game was considered to be the predecessor to the Batman Arkham series which started in 2009. The Batman Begins film was a massive success in theaters earning over $375 million in box revenue. The Batman Begins video game looked amazing by PS2 standards because it was a huge improvement from previous 3D titles like Batman: Vengeance from 2001. Batman Begins was a game that focused more on the origins of Bruce Wayne and his development by training with the League of Shadows. Unlike, the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City title from 2011 Batman Begins is not an open-world video game and follows more of a linear mission based gameplay format.

The environmental designs for Gotham looked impressive along with gameplay mechanics. The stealth and fear system added more depth to the Batman Begins game and the Batmobile missions were fun. The weaponry in Batman Begins were also cool because players had access to gadgets like smoke grenades and batarangs and other items to defeat various foes. The graphics for Batman Begins looked clean and the voice acting was great. In terms of quality some would argue that it rivals the Spider-Man 2 game from 2004 which appeared on the PS2. If anything Batman Begins was one of the better superhero video games of the 2000’s. Despite, Batman Begins having clunky battle mechanics the in-game prompts were very useful to newcomers in relation to navigating throughout different areas of Gotham. What was special about the Batman Begins video game was the fact that it was co-published by EA Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. After Batman Begins EA Games did not work on any other major Batman titles with Warner Bros. But with the Arkham series each game was seemingly better than the last between 2009-2015. Without Batman Begins we do not get the Arkham series which is why the game itself very important along with the movie that came out in 2005.
