It seems like Nintendo has been facing a lot of backlash from angry customers lately but for a variety of different reasons. Its seems like Nintendo does not care about customer satisfaction at all anymore like many other corporations in the world today. The Nintendo Switch 2 was one of the most heavily anticipated game systems of the 2020’s decade. Despite, having a successful launch back in June 2025 there has been mostly outrage regarding the pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2. When the Switch 2 was first released the base price for the game was $449 plus tax. Its crazy to thing that a Switch 2 is almost $500 when the original Switch console was only priced at $299 when it was first released back in 2017. The Nintendo Switch 2 is supposed to be on par with the PS4 in terms of graphics and resolution but the base PS4 averaged around $399 when it launched back in 2013. The PS5 came out back in 2020 and its original price averaged around $499 despite being more superior than the Switch 2 in terms of quality.

There are many who believe Nintendo’s pricing of the Switch 2 is unjustified along with the cost of for Mario Kart World which was priced at $80. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe from 2017 averaged around $59.99 following its release and its something that seems baffling to many gamers. While the economy has gotten worse within the past several years coupled with inflation and tariffs on foreign goods; it seems like those economic factors are apart of the reason why Nintendo’s products are so expensive. It should be noted that Nintendo has been very protective and picky with their IP’s lately. During the Fall of 2024 Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Palworld for copyright infringement which is something that made the gaming community irate considering how beloved it was. At the peak of its popularity Palworld had at least 32 million players online and made nearly $500 million within three months. The idea was that the concept and the creatures in Palworld were too identical to that of Pokemon. It should be noted that Pocketpair the developer for Palworld has stood their ground against Nintendo since the suit was filed over a year ago. Even though, Palworld has not banned and is still playable Nintendo’s actions have left a sour taste in the mouths of the gaming community. Along with the Palworld controversy Nintendo have been declaring war against online piracy for websites utilizing emulators involving their most iconic video games.

In the past Nintendo never seemed to have a problem with it which was quite possibly one of the reasons why it the company remained popular for so many years. However, people nowadays justify online piracy due to the high prices for anything video game related in this day and age. Not only does Nintendo issue cease and desist letters to piracy sites but the corporation also have the ability to brick your Switch as apart of their new anti-piracy system. Nintendo can brick your Switch 2 which leads to players being banned from Nintendo’s online eShop along with disabling their ability to download digital purchases. Nintendo has received backlash from the online gaming community for bricking Switch 2 consoles because their actions are seen as “extreme” in the eyes of many people. Another thing that Nintendo did which created controversy among the online gaming community involved altering the online multiplayer gameplay for Mario Kart World. A few months ago Nintendo decided to update the online multiplayer gameplay for Mario Kart World favoring intermission races over traditional three lap races. While Mario Kart World was initially praised following its Summer 2025 release the update Nintendo made is something that has arguably tarnished the overall quality of the game itself. While games like Mario Kart World has reached over 5.6 million in copies in sales thus far Donkey Kong Bananza has apparently underperformed in sales since its release. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has yet to be released but it gamers are boycotting Nintendo it could have a disastrous on its overall commercial success. So far the Switch 2 has sold more than 6 million units since its release in June 2025 which very impressive. But its unlikely that the Switch 2 will be able to catch up with PlayStation 5 in terms of sales if gamers are constantly discontent with their actions.
