Its hard to believe that its been 30 years since Final Fight 3 was released on the SNES console by Capcom. Final Fight 3 was a beat em up game that was pretty much Capcom’s answer to Sega’s Streets of Rage 3 from 1994. While Final Fight 3 had much better gameplay and music than its ’93 predecessor Final Fight 2 it was not nearly as iconic as the original entry from 1989. Final Fight 3 similar to Final Fight 2 was a SNES exclusive and did not have the same level of mainstream appeal as the first game did. While familiar faces like Mike Haggar and Guy make a return in Final Fight 3 also saw the introduction of new characters like Dean and Lucia as playable characters. Final Fight 3 saw the rise of a new threat known as the Skull Cross gang who have seemingly taken over Metro City. Final Fight 3 has a total of six stages with the Final Boss being Black who is the Skull Cross gang. Despite, the Skull Cross gang not being quite as memorable as the Mad Gear gang from the other games Final Fight 3 was still enjoyable. Final Fight 3 gave players the ability to utilize Super Moves after filling up their Super Meter.

Final Fight 3 also had multiplayer gameplay were people could play with a friend or have CPU as Player 2. Final Fight 3 was not too different from your typical button side-scrolling mashing beat em up which made the game casual friendly. While the soundtrack in Final Fight 3 was a step up from its prequel it was still not nearly as good Streets of Rage 2 from 1992. The soundtrack in Final Fight 3 was arguably better than what was produced in Sega’s Streets of Rage 3. Final Fight 3 is a game that could have achieved more mainstream popularity if it came out soon than it did. By the time we got to the mid 90’s the beat em up genre was beginning to decline in popularity. As good as Final Fight 3 is a beat em up its not nearly as iconic as other games like TMNT: Turtles in Time, Battletoads, Streets of Rage 2 and others. Despite, not doing great in sales it still would have been nice if Capcom made an official 2DS sequel to Final Fight 3 on PS1 back in the 90’s.
