Its hard to believe that is been 25 years since Mega Man X5 was released on the original PlayStation console. Mega Man X5 was the sequel to the iconic Mega Man X4 title from ’97 and featured both Rockman and Zero as playable characters. Mega Man X5 featured eight selectable stages and bosses along with three different endings. While Rockman had two endings in Mega Man X5 Zero only had one. Mega Man X5 saw Sigma return as the main antagonist as he seeks to destroy the Earth by infecting all Reploids with a virus. Mega Man X5 was set in the 22nd century and had a dark futuristic vibe to it. There were various features about the game that many people liked at the time including the level designs, soundtrack along with cutscenes. It should also be noted that Mega Man X5 had one of the best intros within the entire series. Despite, its pros Mega Man X5 was not nearly as iconic as some of the entries that came before it. The visuals for Mega Man X5 did not look as polished as what we got for Mega Man X-X3 for the SNES from ’93-95.

However, Mega Man X5 had better features and it was obvious that Capcom wanted the game to have a darker more gritty look compared to previous entries. Mega Man X5 was supposed to be the final entry with the X series and it should have been considering how horrible Mega Man X6 from 2001 ended up being. Mega Man X5 was a game that people complained about despite its strong points because it felt slow, boring and tedious compared to what was featured in older Mega Man games. The Mega Man series is generally known for its addictive music and its fast-paced gameplay something that felt absent in MMX5. Even though, Mega Man X5 was not nearly as hard as anything from the main series a majority of people found the game itself to be mediocre at best. It should be noted that the Mega. Man series had significantly declined in popularity in countries like America while still managing to appeal to a niche fanbase. Mega Man X5 did very poorly in terms of commercial sales on the PS1 in both Japan and America. However, Mega Man X5 is one of those games that a diehard fan of series would still appreciate because of the amount of effort Capcom put into it. Mega Man X5 had great features but it ended up being tainted by horrible gameplay and excessive cutscenes which were seen unnecessary.
