Its hard to believe that its been 25 years since The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was released on the Nintendo 64. Majora’s Mask the sequel to the legendary Ocarina of Time Zelda title from ’98 and it has gained a reputation for being one of the darkest entries ever made. Unlike most titles within the Zelda franchise we got to see a brand new villain named Skull Kid. Opposed to Ganon trying to use the Triforce in order to conquer Hyrule we got a story that revolved a character who was trying to cause an apocalypse. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was set in Termina which was a different version of Hyrule and Skull Kid was a villain who was practically chaotic evil. Majora’s Mask took place months after the events of Ocarina of Time in a parallel world and was the second major game within the Child Era timeline of the Zelda franchise.

Majora’s Mask featured better graphics than its predecessor and the frame rate within the game had improved significantly compared to Ocarina of Time. The story, level designs, atmosphere along with the improved gameplay mechanics made Majora’s Mask one of the best action-adventure titles to come out of the 2000s decade. Since its release it has managed to reach over 6.8 million copies worldwide on the N64 and the Nintendo 3DS. One of the reasons why Majora’s Mask was so memorable because it was one of the darkest “E” rated Nintendo games ever made. The plot alone for Majora’s Mask revolved around issues of loneliness, depression and suffering and it felt way creepier than anything you would see in another other Zelda game. Despite, being remade for the 3DS console many years ago Nintendo should really consider remaking Majora’s Mask for the Switch in the future.
