Its hard to believe that it has been fifteen years since Pokemon: Black & White came out on the Nintendo DS. Pokemon: Black & White ended up being the games that came out during franchise’s fifth generation and it was considered to be unique in comparison to its prequels due to its 2.5D graphics. While Pokemon: Black & White ended up becoming a massive commercial success selling more than 15 million copies worldwide for the Nintendo DS it was a game that received a largely mixed reception. There were many people who seemed unhappy with the new Pokemon designs along with the fact that they were unable to capture new creatures unless they completed the main storyline. Also, the story for Pokemon: Black & White felt too complex in comparison to previous entries within the series. While breaking away from the traditional 2D aesthetics that Pokemon fans were used to was interesting it was also something many people were not quite ready for at the time.

Despite, its flaws there were various features included in Pokemon: Black & White that people enjoyed including triple battles, rotation battles, season cycle which added more depth to the game itself. Even though, Pokemon: Black & White failed to sell more than Diamond & Pearl from 2006 both games were interesting enough to keep fans talking about it years after their release. While Nintendo may of made millions of dollars from Pokemon: Black & White its possible that they have some regret in relation to changing the art direction from what we got in Diamond & Pearl. The aesthetics we got in Pokemon: Black & White almost felt symbolic in a way where fans knew that Nintendo and Game Freak was phasing out of the 2000’s. Some believe that Pokemon: Black & White could of ended up being better than what Nintendo gave us but it was still good enough to kept casual invested in the series even though it failed to surpass its predecessor in sales.
