Its hard to believe that its been 30 years since the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie game came out. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie game came out for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo in ’95 same year the film was released worldwide. The Sega versions of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie was a game that was more faithful to the actually film compared to what we got on Super Nintendo. The Genesis version of MMPR the movie had six stages and included Megazord battles something that was absent in the SNES port. Both versions of MMPR the movie were beat em up titles that allowed players to choose all six rangers. While the Power Rangers were playable in their unmorphed forms in the SNES version that was not the case in the Genesis port. Its debate able which version had better a soundtrack since the SNES pieces were original while the Genesis used songs from the actual MMPR TV Show. While the SNES version of MMPR the movie was loosely based on the film from ’95 the Genesis version seemingly had more soul.

The Genesis version of the MMPR the movie was published by Sega while the SNES port was licensed under Bandi. Even though, we got Game Gear and Game Boy versions of the MMPR movie game they did not get as much attention as the SNES and Genesis ports. The MMPR film from ’95 was one of the reasons why the game got so much attention especially since it was a box office success earning more than $66 million. Despite, not being as popular as Street of Rage II, Final Fight or TMNT : Turtles in Time in terms of being an iconic beat ’em up; the MMPR movie games managed to gain a cult following over the past three decades especially due to their catchy OST’s. The only beat em up Power Rangers game that has rivaled the MMPR movie game in terms of quality is MMPR: Rita’s Rewind which came out back in 2024.
