Tekken 8 is a game that many people were highly impressed by following its release in January 2024. Tekken 8 was almost a decade in the making prior to its official release and the game ended up named the “Best Fighting Game” at The Game Awards 2024. Tekken 8 has received perfect to nearly perfect scores from various gaming publications for its top-notch visuals, story mode, offline content, gameplay mechanics and its roster. Tekken 8 is one of the best high profile games that we have seen in quite sometime. While Tekken 8 has received universal praise since its release it still has a long way to go before it surpasses its 2015 prequel Tekken 7 in sales. Tekken 7 has managed to reach at least 10 million copies worldwide in sales on last generations consoles within the past nine years. The story for Tekken 8 was slightly better than its prequel due to Jun Kazama’s return and featured various exciting game modes including Arcade Quest, Tekken Ball, Arcade Battle, Story Mode and Tekken Fight Lounge. Tekken 8 featured 36 playable characters with a few characters being DLC such as Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI. While the gameplay for Street Fighter 6 is more beginner friendly for newcomers who are button mashers the same thing cannot be said for Tekken 8. The 3D gameplay in Tekken 8 adds another level of complexity to the combat system.

While Street Fighter 6 features tutorials that helps players master their fighting skills Tekken 8 does not. Even though, Tekken 8 has a Practice mode the game desperately needed a tutorial that would be helpful for beginners. It should also be noted that the World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6 was far more interesting than almost anything in Tekken 8 outside of Story Mode. Also, when you look at the main villain of Tekken 8 its basically the same person who has been one of the primary antagonists of the series since 1995. Street Fighter 6 has a brand new story and introduces a new main antagonist JP. Street Fighter 6 also makes Luke Sullivan the main protagonist which shows that Capcom is not afraid of putting the spotlight newer characters. The Mishima saga has been going on for at least 30 years now and while its intriguing the outcome for the main story in Tekken 8 whether you got the good or bad ending was predictable. While Tekken 8 looks more polished and has a steeper learning curve Street Fighter 6 has a more unique art style and is easier learn. While the campaign for Tekken 8 good and introduces a few new characters Reina, Victor and Azucena the main story is a continuation the Mishama storyline which has been going on forever. While its hard for some to choose one game over the other its safe to say the Tekken 8 rivals Street Fighter 6 in terms of graphics, complexity and even storytelling.
