Its hard to believe that Mega Man X: Command Mission came out 20 years ago for the PlayStation 2. Mega Man X: Command Mission is one of the few entries within Capcom’s legendary franchise that does not get the credit that it deserves. Even though, Mega Man X: Command Mission was not a massive commercial success following its release in the mid 00’s the game ended up being one of the best 3D installments that Capcom had produced. While the popularity of the Mega Man series had been slowly declining since the late 80’s Capcom had decided to focus more on the RPG genre during the 2000’s. Mega Man X: Command Mission was a game where Mega Man X along with a Maverick Hunter team had to stop the diabolical plans of the main antagonist Colonel Redips. The main villain was the leader of the Rebellion Army and wanted to access the Supra-Force Metal to rule the universe. The setting of the game took place in the 23rd century and the Force Metal was a chemical substance that revolutionized engineering for Reploids which was found on a mining island. Colonel Redips was not quite as memorable as Sigma in terms of being a main antagonist but Mega Man X: Command Mission was a fun game to play in general. Mega Man X: Command Mission allowed players to control multiple characters including X, Xero, Axl. Cinnamon, Marino, Spider and Steel Massimo. The gameplay, graphics and voice-over acting in Mega Man X: Command Mission was top notch and it felt somewhat similar to Final Fantasy X-2 in terms of being an RPG for the PlayStation 2. As a 3D game Mega Man X: Command Mission was ten times better than the two Mega Man Legends titles from ’97’-’00. Mega Man X: Command Mission is one of those games that Capcom should have remastered or remade at least a decade ago. Even though, Mega Man X: Command Mission was too popular in America during the 2000’s its one of the few 3D entries within its own franchise that holds up well 20 years later. Similar to the 3D Sonic the Hedgehog games from the 00’s there were a variety of new characters who could have been more popular than they were over time. Also, having a more story driven Mega Man RPG game was something that deviated from the norm but quite interesting during the 2000’s.
