The 2000’s decade was a great time for pro wrestling video games especially during the PS2/GameCube era. WWE Day of Reckoning from 2004 was quite possibly one of the most underrated pro wresting video games of the 00’s decade. WWE Day of Reckoning was published by THQ and developed by Yuke’s. WWE Day of Reckoning the first major pro wrestling game on GameCube to follow WrestleMania XIX which came out in 2003 and the game had a mainly positive reception by critics and various gaming publications. WWE Day of Reckoning had better graphics than the previous pro wrestling titles that came out on GameCube but was not quite good as the PS2 title from the mid 2000’s. WWE Day of Reckoning was a game that had a variety of game modes including Story and Exhibition which had a variety of different match types. The story mode for WWE Day of Reckoning focused on players creating their own wrestler and going to Raw or Smackdown working their way up the ranks for a year in order to main event WrestleMania.

The story mode in Day of Reckoning allowed players to win the Tag-Team titles on whatever show they were on along with the I.C. or the United States title. Also, by the time players got to WrestleMania they had the opportunity to challenge Triple H or the Undertaker at WrestleMania 20 for the WWE or the World Heavyweight title. The roster of WWE Day of Reckoning was stacked with top stars from ’04 including Triple H, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam, John Cena, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Batista, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Trish Stratus, Booker T and more. WWE Day of Reckoning also had legendary superstars like The Rock, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Andre The Giant and others. WWE Day of Reckoning featured a variety of different match types including Triple-Threat, Fatal 4 Way, Hell in a Cell, Cage, Ladder and TLC which added to its overall replay value. This game also featured blood and Bra and Panties Matches with the Divas something you won’t see in today’s WWE 2K games. WWE Day of Reckoning was one of the few hidden gems in relation to pro wrestling games to have emerged from the Ruthless Aggression era during the 2000’s. Unfortunately, WWE Day of Reckoning was overshadowed by the SvR series on the PlayStation 2 during the mid 2000’s and we only got one sequel on GameCube following 2004.
