Tekken 8 is probably the biggest fighting game that we have seen so far in 2024. The gameplay, graphics, story along with the character roster were all impressive. Bringing back Jun Kazama to further the Mishama storyline was one of the biggest attractions of Tekken 8. Since January 2024 has reportedly reached around 2 million copies in sales. While some considered that to be a good thing it has still managed to sell less than Street Fighter 6 did following its release in 2023. Street Fighter has sold roughly around 3 million copies across multiple gaming platforms since its release last year. There have been various claims that Tekken 8 has sold more copies worldwide a lot faster than its predecessor Tekken 7 did following its launch in 2015. However, Tekken 7 was a game that eventually ended up reaching over 10 million is sales overall.
Tekken 7 is regarded as the best selling game within its own franchise but it took about seven years for it to reach over 10 million in sales. Tekken 8 is a game that has the potential to exceed is prequel in sales due to having a variety of different game modes. Tekken 8 has brought back fan favorites such as Tekken Ball Mode and also has Tekken Fight Lounge, Arcade Quest, Arcade Battle, Practice, Versus along with Story. The inclusion of Rage Arts and the Heat system adds more depth to the fighting mechanics in Tekken 8 which is something that make it stand out from previous entries. Even though, games like Mortal Kombat 1 has managed to outsell Tekken 8 so far its still considered to be “mid” in comparison Mortal Kombat 11. The fighting genre of gaming is not quite as popular as it once was during the 2010’s but the Tekken franchise is still one of the biggest attractions out there right now.
