
Its hard to believe that it has been a decade since Mario Kart 8 was released for the Wii-U console. Mario Kart 8 was an entry that stood out from its predecessors mainly due to its anti-gravity racing mechanic. Mario Kart 8 had approximately 32 different courses and eight cups that players could compete for in the grand prix. Mario Kart 8 saw the introduction of new items along with online multiplayer game with a variety of different vehicle options including go-karts, hand gliders, motorbikes. Mario Kart 8 was quite possibly the best thing Nintendo had going for the Wii-U since it ended up becoming the top selling game for that console. Mario Kart sold more than 8.4 million copies on the Wii-U which was impressive considering the fact that the console was a commercial failure.

Mario Kart 8 had around 36 different characters which included the likes of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Toad, Princess Peach along with many others. The deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 came out for the Switch console in ’17 and it ended up becoming the best selling title for that game system. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe managed to reach over 60 million copies in sales surpassing the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Mario Kart 8 along with the deluxe version are quite possibly the best racing games Nintendo has created. Its going to be very difficult for Nintendo to create another entry that is going to surpass Mario Kart 8 in relation to commercial success. Mario Kart 8 took what Sega did in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and did it much better which was impressive while being able to appeal more to casuals. Everything about Mario Kart 8 was pretty cool at the time including the graphics, gameplay, course designs along with players having numerous gameplay options which added to its overall replay value.
