Its hard to believe that Mega Man X2 came out 30 years ago on Super Nintendo. Mega Man X2 was the sequel to the critically acclaimed and iconic Mega Man X title from 1993. Even though, Mega Man X2 was not nearly as popular as its prequel it was still a pretty fun 16-bit run n gun title. The story for Mega Man X2 followed the defeat of Sigma in the prequel as Rockman X attempted to track down rouge Reploids. Even though, Mega Man X2 was cool game it was not nearly as epic as Mega Man X from 1993. The soundtrack, bosses and everything else in Mega Man X2 was not as memorable compared to what we got in the first X game. The graphics and gameplay for Mega Man X2 were just as good as the prequel and the cutscenes really added to the overall quality of the game itself. Also, Mega Man X2 had two different endings depending on whether or not the player collected multiple components throughout the game needed reassemble Zero. Mega Man and his battle against the X-Hunters was something that was far more interesting that the stuff that we got in the NES Rockman series involving Dr. Wily. Mega Man X2 ended up being a commercial flop in comparison to Rockman X which sold more than 1.1 million copies worldwide on the SNES console. Mega Man X2 was arguably the game where the decline of the Rockman X series began despite being a pretty solid title itself. Three decades later Mega Man X2 is still a somewhat challenging run n gun SNES title but unfortunately its not as popular as the original Rockman X game.

One response to “Mega Man X2- Does It Hold Up 30 Years Later?”

  1. Solid game but that fight with Weil toward the end is rather punishing. I liked the improvements to the dash in X2. When it comes down to it, though, I’d still rather just play the original.
