Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is considered to be one of the most legendary 2D platform games of all-time along with the first two Sonic titles from ’91-’94. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 arguably had the best soundtrack of trilogy of games for the Sega Genesis. The soundtrack for Sonic 3 stood out more so than its predecessors mainly because legendary King of Pop Michael Jackson had collaborated with Sega on producing the music. Not only that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was the game where Knuckles the Echidna made his video game debut as the secondary antagonist alongside the main villain Dr. Robotnik. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had six different zones that were divided into two acts each with the game slowly increasing in difficultly as players progressed. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was easier to complete than Sonic 2 because players were allowed to save their in game progress on multiple files opposed to having start the game over entirely after dying. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was not too difficult but at the same time it presented enough of a challenge for players to become emotionally invested in the game itself. 

The introduction of Knuckles the Echidna added more life excitement to the ongoing storyline between Sonic & Tails versus Dr. Robotnik. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is so iconic to a point where we recently got a film back in 2022 which was based off the game’s storyline. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie from ’22 directed by Jeff Fowler ended up earning more than $405 million in box office revenue and was mostly praised by critics following its worldwide release. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has maintained a cult following for the past three decades since ’94 and was eventually followed by the Sonic & Knuckles title which ended up being the second part of that game. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 from ’94 was arguably the last great 2D platformer that attracted mainstream attention before Sonic Mania came out in 2017. Even though, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 seems like a basic platform title in this day and age its one that majority of people within the gaming community is familiar with. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still a very fun game to play to this day despite its outdated graphics. The only problem with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 involves the copyright issues concerning the original soundtrack for the game which has not been featured in Sonic Origins back in 2022. Most of the original soundtracks from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had been replaced in Sonic Origins which took away the magical experience that gamers got when the played the original game. If anything the soundtrack was one of the most memorable things about the Sonic 3 video game along with the storyline itself.
