Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is one of the most highly anticipated video games of 2024 along with Tekken 8. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is supposed to be the highly anticipated sequel of the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy VII: Remake from 2020. Final Fantasy VII: Remake from 2020 ended selling at least seven million copies across the PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC since its release and was more popular than FFXVI. While Square Enix was satisfied with the Final Fantasy VII: Remake they were not too happy with the performance of FFXVI. Final Fantasy XVI has managed to sell roughly over three million copies on the PS5 since its release back in June 2023. Since the release of FFXVI Square Enix had reportedly lost at least $2 billion which is not a good sign for the company going into 2024. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is a game that must be a commercial success because Square Enix’s last few titles including Forspoken and Marvel’s Avengers have been misses opposed to hits. Square Enix has lost too much money this year and desperately need FFXVI to make up for the financial shortfall they received in 2023. During the course of 2023 Square Enix similar to other video game companies had to layoff numerous employees in both Los Angeles and Europe due to tough financial conditions. Hopefully, Square Enix layoffs were for the better because it would be shame if Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth underperforms similar to FFXVI.
