The Mario Paint video game from ‘92 was highly underrated on the SNES console and managed to reach over two million copies in sales following its release. Despite, not selling as much as other Mario titles from the 90’s many people from America found it both fun and entertaining for its time. Following the positive reception that Mario Paint received in the early 90’s the N64 sequel known as Mario Artist was never released in America between ‘99-‘00. Mario Artist consisted of multiple programs including a Communication Kit, Paint Studio, Talent Studio along with a Polygon Studio. Players had access to a paint program where they were able to sketch and animate drawings. The Polygon Studio allowed people to design and render 3D polygonal objects for creation which was innovative during its time.

The Talent Studio allowed players to dress up and animate human faces on 3D models. Players could also connect other electronic devices including a VCR or camera to the Capture Cartridge to records movies on N64. Along with the fact that Mario Artist was a Japanese exclusive many people never got a chance to play the game; mainly because the 64DD was not nearly as popular as the PS1 was between 1999-2000. While Americans loved the N64 a majority of them did not go the extra mile to get the 64DD. The features that Mario Artist had were absolutely amazing for its time. It’s a shame that Mario Artist never received an official release in America considering the amount of effort and creativity that went into its development.
