The Kirby series has been around since the 90’s and there are many people who would argue that some of the best installments within the series came out during that decade. While Kirby Dream Land from ’92 was massive attraction for Game Boy following its release the ’95 sequel Kirby’s Dream Land 2 was almost every bit as good. Kirby Dream Land 2 was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo and was a platform game that had seven different levels. The plot for Dream Land 2 involved Kirby trying to stop an evil force named Dark Matter which had possessed King Dedede one of the recurring antagonists of the series. Throughout, the game players were expected to collect seven rainbow drops before the end and failure to do so lead to an alternate ending. If players collected the seven Rainbow drops from each island then Kirby not only frees Dedede from Dark Matter’s control but he also battles the evil entity towards the end of the game. If players did not collect all seven Rainbow Drops before the end of the game they ended up fighting and defeating King Dedede in the end while he is still possessed by Dark Matter. The presentation of Kirby Dream Land 2 was very unique especially for those who played it on Game Boy Color. The 2D pixel art graphics and sprite looked fresh and the soundtrack was fun to listen to. In terms of sales Kirby’s Dream Land 2 had failed to surpass its predecessor but it did manage to sell over 2.3 million copies worldwide. The success of Kirby Dream Land 2 was followed by a ’97 SNES sequel known as Dream Land 3 which got overlooked since more people were buying the N64 during the late 90’s. Kirby Dream Land 2 was almost as popular as Kirby’s Adventure from 1993 and could have possibly sold more on the SNES during the mid 90’s than it did on Game Boy.
