It seems like 2023 has been mostly a great year for Nintendo thus far following the box office success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie in theaters. We also got to see the release of the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which many critics believe is one of the best entries within its series next to the likes of Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time. Since its release back in Spring 2017 the Switch consoles has been a massive commercial success reaching over 125 million units sold worldwide. The Switch console has been available in retail for over six years now and rumors are spreading around on the internet that Nintendo is working on possibly revealing a new game system sometime in the near future. In fact, these rumors were somewhat confirmed when details regarding the legal battle between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission had emerged not too long ago. As we know Microsoft had won their case against the Federal Trade Commission regarding the multi-billion dollar purchase of Activision-Blizzard. However, it was revealed that court documents had shown that Microsoft is expecting Nintendo to reveal their next generation game system sometime in 2024. While Microsoft’s assumptions about Nintendo are not necessarily facts it would make sense for Nintendo to reveal a next generation game system next year. When Nintendo Wii-U was released back in late 2012 we eventually ended up getting the Switch console more than four years later. Following the release of the Wii console in November 2006 we ended up gettin the Wii-U console almost six years later. Nintendo has a history of releasing new home consoles every five or six years depending on how successful the system is. There might be some truth to Microsoft’s claims regarding Nintendo’s next generation game system especially since we have not seen any gameplay trailers for Metroid Prime 4 or Mario Kart 9 for that matter.
