Double Dragon Gaiden set for release in Summer 2023

It hard to believe that the Double Dragon series has been around for least 35 years now. The very first Double Dragon game came out back in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System console and has evolved into what we see today. The latest installment within the Double Dragon series was Double Dragon IV which came out back in 2017 and was a game that many people were not too fond of. The beat em up genre in general has declined massively since the 80’s and early 90’s but we have seen games like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: The Rise of Shredder achieve commercial success. The same could eventually happen with this new game Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons which has recently been announced for an upcoming release in Summer 2023. This new Double Dragon game is a multiplayer beat em up with a nice retro pixelated art style that somewhat resembles that of the Scott Pilgrim vs The World title from 2010. Players will be able to choose one of four characters including Billy Lee, Jimmy Lee, Marian and a brand new character Uncle Martin. The setting for the game takes place in New York City after its been heavily damaged by nuclear warfare with criminals and misfits running around and creating chaos. Double Dragon Gaiden will be developed by Modus Games and expected to possibly contain some rouge-like elements to it. An official release date for Double Dragon Gaiden has yet to be revealed but we do know that it will appear on game systems such as PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. Even though, though the Double Dragon series does not appeal to a casual audience of gamers as it once did back in the 80’s it will definitely attract hardcore fans of the series and old-school gaming in general.
