The Grand Theft Auto series has been around for approximately 25 years now and it has become one of the biggest franchises in the history of gaming. The popularity of the GTA series began to skyrocket following the commercial success of Grand Theft Auto III which came out back in 2001. Almost every Grand Theft Auto game that has been released throughout the 00’s and 10’s decades have been highly successful commercially with almost every installment becoming more popular than its predecessor. The latest installment within the Grand Theft Auto series was GTA V from ’13 which is considered to be one of the greatest video games to have emerged from the 2010’s decade. Grand Theft Auto V has managed to reach around 160 million copies sold worldwide across multiple gaming platforms including the PS4, Xbox One and PC. It has also been said that since ’13 Grand Theft Auto V has managed earn Rockstar Games approximately $6 billion in revenue making GTA V one of the most profitable video games of all-time. At this point the Grand Theft Auto series has seemingly transcended the realm of video games in terms of popularity to a point where it could be appealing in other forms of media whether it be television or cinema. Each Grand Theft Auto game from ’01 to ’13 were classics that had great storylines and deserved adaptations in the form of movies or a TV series. However, its common knowledge that RockStar Games is a video game company that has not shown too much interest in bringing the legendary action-adventure series to Hollywood or television for a Netflix series anytime in the near future.
