As many people know one of the most popular video games out right for the Nintendo Switch is Super Mario Odyssey . Since its release back in October 2017 Super Mario Odyssey has managed to sell over 10 million units worldwide and is considered to be one of Nintendo’s fastest selling games ever. The popularity and good reception of the Nintendo Switch was definitely a factor in the success of Super Mario Odyssey which makes some people wonder whether or not the game could have been just as successful if it were released for the Wii-U before it was discontinued back in early 2017. Since its availability in retail back in late 2012 the best selling game for the Wii-U was Mario Kart 8 which was released back in May 2014.

Mario Kart 8 has managed to sell over 8.4. million copies worldwide since its release and the best selling platform title on the Wii-U was Super Mario 3D World which reached over 5.8 million copies worldwide in sales since its release back in November 2013. The Wii-U was nowhere near as popular as the Switch is now and is possible that Super Mario Odessey would have ended up selling less than 10 million copies worldwide if it were available exclusively on Nintendo’s last generation console.
