When it comes down to forgotten RPG classics from the 90’s one of the many titles that comes to mind is the Xenogears game for the PS1. Ever since, Xenogears was released 20 years ago it was seen as the most underrated and critically acclaimed RPG titles of the late 90’s. There are some would argue that Xenogears was overshadowed during the late 90’s due to the release of more popular RPG’s such as Final Fantasy VII & VIII which became two of the best selling titles for the PS1 overall. Had Xenogears appeared on another game console such as the Sega Dreamcast which was also released in 1998 the game definitely could have stood out much more than it did for the PS1.

However, Square Enix was never too big on working with Sega back in the 90’s in relation to RPG’s. Also, Sony’s PS1 was much more popular worldwide in countries such as Japan and America than Sega’s Dreamcast console was between the mid to late 90’s. As a game Xenogears could of stood out more on the Dreamcast as a RPG especially since there were not to many games like it on the 128-bit console. But in terms of overall popularity Xenogears on the Dreamcast may have been on the same level as it was for the PS1.
