When it comes down to successful high profile modern day platformers one of the many titles that comes to mind is Sonic Mania. As many people know Sonic Mania was released back in the Summer of 2017 and since then it has managed to sell over one million units worldwide. The fact that Sonic Mania was very similar to the first three 16 bit games from the early 90’s really added to the overall appeal of Sonic Mania. Retro gamers were impress by the improved gaming mechanics Sonic Mania has in comparison to titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 & 3.

In some way Sonic Mania felt like more of a sequel than Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was based on how it looked along with the nostalgia it gave those who were long time fans of the series. Seeing how popular Sonic Mania has become there are many who wonder if the game will ever have a direct sequel. Seeing how successful Sonic Mania has been it will most likely have a sequel a few years down the line but as of right now people are still enjoying the 2D platform adventure title on multiple game consoles.
