When Sony had released the PS1 back in the mid 90’s it was such a huge success and managed to sell over 103 million units worldwide since 1994. Many would argue that the game’s produced by Square Enix such as Final Fantasy VII & VIII played a significant role in Sony gaining the lead over both Nintendo and Sega during the 90’s console wars. In fact, many would argue that Nintendo’s collaboration with Square Enix back in the early 90’s was one of the main reading why the Super Nintendo ended up selling more than the Sega Genesis did. The SNES has timeless JRPG titles such as Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy IV-IV which seemingly stood out more than role playing games from the Sega Genesis.

When it comes down to to role playing games in general it seems like nobody does it better than Square Enix. While saying that Square Enix was the main reason why Sony got the lead during the console wars during the 90’s is a huge assertion it may not be entirely accurate. Sony had games such as Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot Spyro the Dragon along with Tekken 3 which sold millions on the PS1. However, there is no doubt that Square Enix doing business with Sony towards the late 90’s was a huge factor in Sony gaining the upper hand over its competition during the console wars against Nintendo and Sega going into the 2000’s.
