In relation to highly anticipated game consoles one of the many systems that people are talking about is the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 4 has been out since late 2013 and since then the console has managed to be a huge success worldwide. Since its release a few years ago the PlayStation 4 has managed to sell over 79 million units around the world and there is speculation on whether or not it will surpass the PlayStation 3 in terms of sales. There are many people who are doubtful that the PS4 will surpass the PlayStation 2 which sold around 155 million units worldwide since its release back in 2000.

Many would argue that the PlayStation 2 was very successful due to the fact that it was backwards compatible with PS1 games. While backwards compatibility was more limited on the PlayStation 3 it seems like that feature was completely absent on the PlayStation 4. In terms of business having no backwards compatibility on the PS4 was good decision by Sony since it will forced players to purchase the consoles to play new games. On the other hand the PS4 may have sold much more than it did because of its lack of backwards compatibility. Either way the PlayStation 4 still ended up being one of the most successful game systems of the 10’s decade. If Sony decides not to make the PlayStation 5 backwards compatible it will mostly likely have a minimal effect on the company as a whole in relation to the console wars against Microsoft and Nintendo.
