There was no doubt that the R-Type series was popular during the early 90’s on consoles such as the SNES. The challenging gameplay along with the beautiful graphics in both the arcade and Super Nintendo port of the original R-Type was appealing fans of the side scrolling shooter genre of gaming. But it’s kinda interesting that we never really got a chance to see an R-Type game for the N64.

A 3D version of R-Type back in the mid to late 90’s for the N64 would have been interesting in theory but may not have played out so well in practice. However, the world did get the opportunity to see an R-Type game for the PS1 in late 1998. R-Type Delta was a pretty decent game in fact some would argue that the game did not get a much credit as it deserved back in the late 90’s. Overall, having a R-Type game on the PS1 opposed to the N64 was definitely a better decision in the long run.
