At this point Pokemon Sun and Moon despite how popular both games are would be better off staying on the Nintendo 3DS. If Game Freak had plans on bring Pokémon Sun and Moon to the Nintendo Switch anytime after March of 2017 would have definitely worked. Instead of having either game ported for the Switch console we got Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon back in November 2017.

The idea of having Pokémon Sun & Moon on the Nintendo Switch doesn’t make to much sense especially considering the fact that it could be easily overshadowed by Pokken Tournament DX. The fact that Pokémon Sun and Moon are 3DS exclusives adds to the appeal of both games.
