There are many who look back at the Wii U console and think about what could have been.  If the Wii U lacked backwards compatibility the console could have possibly done better in terms of sales.  The price of the Wii U consoles were very expensive and make it backwards compatible with older Wii games ended up hurting the game system in the long run.

When we look at the Nintendo Switch it seems the hybrid console has been a huge success in 2017 since there was really no backwards compatibility with the Wii or the Wii U.  While the inclusion backwards compatibility might have been a factor why the Wii U did not do so great in terms of sales many believe that it’s not the only reason why sales ended up floping in comparison to the PS4 or the Xbox One.
