We all remember when Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was first released in the Summer of 2010. Since its long awaited release Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has been broken down into two different episodes. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II was released back in the Spring 2012 and unlike the first episode this game had Tails accompany Sonic in his mission to stop Dr. Eggman from constructing the Death Egg II over Little Planet similar to the events that occurred in Sonic CD which was released in 1993. While Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II was an exciting game there were many people who were looking forward to episode III before it was eventually scrapped.

While there are some people who enjoyed the 2D retro styled gameplay of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episodes I & II. However, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 may not have been what everyone was expecting in relation to a direct sequel following the Sonic & Knuckles for the Sega Genesis. There is a possibility that Dimps and the Sonic Team decided not to move forward because Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episodes 1 & II fell below the expectations that many retro gamers from the 16 bit era had prior to their respective releases. While the first Sonic the Hedgehog 4 game was initially popular its was not nearly as popular Sonic Mania is right now. While it would have been cool to see Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode III with the possible inclusion of Knuckles the Echidna the game could of ended up being flop seeing how Episode II was not quite as popular as Episode I. If anything we probably should have gotten Sonic Mania instead of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 back in 2010.
