The Metroid series is considered to be legendary in the world of gaming and has been around since the late 80’s.  When we look pack at games such as Super Metroid for the SNES and Metroid Prime for the Nintendo GameCube sometimes we can’t help but wonder why there wasn’t a game for the Nintendo 64.  While Super Metroid was a hit for SNES many people were waiting for a direct sequel around the mid 90’s following the release of the Nintendo 64.

It’s quite possible that at the time Nintendo did not know how to make a Metroid game play out in 3D at the time.  Besides there were so many other games on the N64 that could have easily overshadowed Metroid on the N64 such as Mario Kart 64, Banjo Kazooie, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, 007 Golden Eye and more.  If anything making the first 3D Metroid game on the GameCube was probably the best idea in the long run.  The graphics for Metroid Prime on GameCube was not as blocky as it would of been if it started out on the N64.
