When it comes down to side scrolling shooting games Super R Type is a classic from the 16 bit era.  Super R Type was such a cool yet very challenging game from the early 90’s for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.  However, there are some who question whether or not this game could have gotten over big on the Sega Genesis.  

In some ways Super R Type is like the SNES’s version of Gley Lancer which was released in 1992 exclusively for the Sega Genesis.   Having Super R Type for the Mega Drive or the Sega Genesis back in the early 90’s would have been great to see.  But Super R Type may not have done any better than Gley Lancer if it was an exclusive for the Sega Genesis.  But then again since Super R Type was actually released in America unlike Gley Lancer back in the early 90’s the game could have was have obtained as much success on the Sega Genesis just like it did on the SNES.
