Ever since the late 90’s early 00’s Sonic the Hedgehog games have been produced more in 3D opposed to 2D with the exception of titles featured on handheld devices such the Game Boy Advance.  While 2D Sonic games felt more memorable aside from the likes of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Colors it would be strange if Sega just stopped making 3D Sonic titles all together.

As of right now Sonic Forces looks like a promising game that will be available for multiple game consoles.  However, its uncertain on whether or not Sonic Forces will be quite as popular Sonic Mania which is a game that is reminiscent of older titles from the 16 bit era back in the early 90’s.
