The Final Fight series had probably reached its peak in popularity during the early 90’s when the trilogy was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.  Ever since the SNES days it seems like the Final Fight series has declined in popularity which is not much of a surprise to many people nowadays.

It was around the early 90’s when the beat em up genre of gaming started to decline while the world got to witness fighting games such as Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter and others rise in popularity.  Ever since Final Fight III was released for the SNES back in 1995 we got to see games like Final Fight Revenge and Final Fight Streetwise released for the Sega Saturn along with their the PS2 during the 00’s.

Both Final Fight Revenge and Final Fight Streetwise were not well received by to many people mainly because the series was pretty much dead by the 00’s.  However, if titles such as Final Fight Streetwise was featured exclusively on consoles such as GameCube or the Nintendo Wii it could have possibly turned heads back in the 00’s.    But when retro gamers think about the Final Fight series they think about 2D 16-bit side scrolling beat em up adventures.  If Capcom had continued to utilize the same 16 bit formula for Final Fight games in the 00’s similar to how they did in the 90’s the series as a whole probably would have remained more relevant in the long run.
