The original Chrono Trigger For the Super Nintendo Entertainment System is one of the most well recognized RPG titles of all time.  Since its release back in the mid 90’s Chrono Trigger has managed to sell over 2 million units worldwide which is an impressive feat for a JRPG that does get talked about as much as it should.  Despite, being a huge success for the SNES some people wonder if Chrono Trigger would have had the same level of success that it did if it was released for the Sega Genesis back in the 90’s.

In terms of graphics and sprites retro gamers from the 16-bit era are often divided on which console was better.  While the SNES looked like it had better and more colorful sprites the Genesis arguably had a better sound system.  Besides Sega did not have as many RPG titles as Nintendo did back in the early 90’s. When it comes down to sales regarding titles developed by Square Enix they generally tend to do great regardless of what game console they are featured on.  But looking at the amount of success Chrono Trigger had on the SNES its hard to fathom the idea of the game selling more on the Sega Genesis because RPG was not the genre that stood out the most for that console.
