Its hard to believe that many people are talking about the possibly release of the PlayStation 5 in the year 2018.  As of right now we are still waiting for the release of the PlayStation Neo which is supposed to be an upgraded version of the PS4.  While Sony has already sold over 53.4 million units worldwide it would be interesting to see whether or not the PlayStation 5 could top the PS4 or even come close to the PS2 in terms of sales.   If the rumors are true about the PlayStation 5 being released in 2018 then Sony’s newest game console could prove to be a major threat to other game consoles such as the Nintendo Switch which was just released in March 2017.

The Nintendo Switch has done very well in terms of sales and has sold more than five million units worldwide in such a short period of time.  Along with the release of the Nintendo Switch we are all still waiting for the release of the Xbox Scorpio which Microsoft has stated will be one of the most powerful consoles in the gaming industry once its released.  If the PlayStation 5 is released next year as rumors have shown then it will be interesting to see what type of features the Sony will include in the console.  Also, it will be fascinating to see whether or not the PS5 will be backward compatible with PlayStation 4 games.
