When it comes down to the Nintendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been said to be the fastest selling game for the console since its release on April 28th this year.  Since its release Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been very popular in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom.   Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has only been out for about a week and it managed to sell over half a million copies worldwide.  In terms of sales the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is doing even better than Mario Kart Wii did back when it was released worldwide in 2008.   In terms of whether or not Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will surpass the original game for the Wii-U is still questionable.

However, its easier for people to lean closer to yes than no considering the fact that the Nintendo Switch is more popular than the Wii-U.  Also, in terms of actual video games for the Nintendo Switch the console itself does not have too many big titles on it right now which will make Mario Kart Deluxe even more of an attraction right now next to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Since the original Mario Kart 8 game was released for the Nintendo Wii-U during the spring of 2014 the game had managed to sell over seven million units worldwide.

This is after the Wii-U console had been available for over a year along with having a variety of other games on the system to compete with including Super Mario 3D World and the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD.  Since the Nintendo Switch is still considered to be a brand new console there is a decent chance that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will surpass the original Wii-U game in terms of worldwide sales within two years.
