When it came down to 3D platform games the early 10’s was quite possibly one of the best time periods ever to be a fan of the genre.  During the early 10’s we got many cool games such as Super Mario 3D Land, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, Super Mario 3D World and others.   In terms of 3D platform titles Sonic Generations was among the few that was very impressive due to the designs and concept used in developing this title.  Sonic Generations allow people to play as both modern and classic Sonic while playing through some old school and modern day levels of the series.   In Sonic Generations people have the opportunity to play through famous levels from the 90’s including Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone and Sky Sanctuary in both 2D and 3D.  Along with playing through stages from the 90’s people can also adventure through popular Sonic stages from the 00’s including City Escape & Speed Highway in 2D which was pretty cool.  Also, player in many exciting boss battles with the likes of Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic, Silver the Hedgehog and Chaos.

The visual presentation for the stages in this game were fantastic thanks to the Hedgehog Engine which has been utilized for multiple games feature on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.  The concept of being able to play as both classic and modern day Sonic was nice because it felt like Sega’s way of blending nostalgic elements of the classic titles with the in game mechanics of the more recent titles.   As cool as Sonic Generations was one of the few downers about this game was the fact that players only got to choose modern and classic Sonic.  The same concept alternating between modern and classic characters  could have been used for Tails & Knuckles since they were both featured in the older games for Sega Genesis.   Despite, the fact that both versions of Sonic are the only playable characters in the Sonic Generations the overall quality of the game is excellent.

Since its release Sonic Generations has done great in sales and has sold over one million units on consoles such as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo 3DS individually.  Despite, the fact that the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations was different from the home console versions many people still enjoyed since it looked and felt similar to Sonic Rush.  Since its release Sonic Generations has been considered by many to be arguably one of the best games in the series along with Sonic Colors to have been released in the 2010’s.
