Memory cards have been around in the gaming industry for over two decades and they have provided to be quite useful for everyone who owned a game system. Since the mid 90’s memory cards were necessary for completing various types of games including RPG titles.  Also, when it comes down to fighting, racing, sports or any other game genre memory card had almost become a necessity when it came down to saving data in regards to unlockable items in video games.  As many of us know the gaming industry has evolved significantly since the mid 90’s where memory cards started to become an essential accessory for consoles.   When it comes down to modern day game consoles such as PlayStation 4  and the Xbox One buying a memory card almost seems unnecessary.

While there are game consoles such as the Nintendo Switch that would probably be considered an exception most home consoles generally have hundreds of gigabytes in terms of storage.  Both basic models of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One includes 500 GB of storage while the upgraded models have 1 terabytes.   The Nintendo Switch has only has 32 GB of  hard drive storage space would most likely force customers to buy Micro SD cards.   With the popularity of online multiplayer gaming in this generation memory cards can almost be considered optional at this point.  The current consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are more than capable of saving data from various games.  With companies like Sony and Microsoft making systems that have up to 1TB of storage who knows how much longer we will see memory cards for such consoles.
