Its hard to believe that its been fifteen years since WWE All-Stars was released for game systems like PS3 and Xbox 360. WWE All-Stars was considered to be a spin-off game outside of the main Smackdown vs Raw series. WWE All-Stars also came out the same year WWE 12 was released and was considered to be more kid friendly in comparison. WWE All-Stars came out a few years after World Wrestling Entertainment became a publicly traded company while trying to appeal to a more casual family audience through their PG rating. WWE All-Stars was a game that reflected the direction that World Wrestling Entertainment wanted to go in at the time. The larger than life characters and the muscular physiques felt reminiscent of that of the 80’s and early 90’s which was considered to be the Golden Era of WWE. It felt like WWE All-Stars tried to capture that vibe to some extend with massive star power of superstars from the past and present. WWE All-Stars featured characters like John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Stone Cold, The Rock, Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Roddy Piper and more.

WWE All-Stars looked very polished by early 10’s standards and had gameplay that somewhat resembled the WWF WrestleMania Arcade game from ’95. WWE All-Stars also featured game modes like Path of Champions, Fantasy Warfare and Exhibition that featured various match types like Cage Match and Extreme Rules. WWE All-Stars also allowed players to create and customize their own wrestler which was also a pretty cool feature. Most adult fans of WWE or even pro wrestling in general had polarizing opinions of WWE All-Stars when it came out back in 2011. However, many would go on record and agree that it was better than a majority of the WWE 2K titles from the 10’s decade. WWE All-Stars was not meant to be take seriously and that is one of the main things that added to the game’s overall appeal. One of the main reasons that WWE All-Stars never got a sequel was because it underperformed in sales. Its a shame because for several years there have been some WWE fans who wanted an All-Stars 2 game. However, the closest we got to an All-Stars 2 was the release of WWE 2K Battlegrounds from 2021. WWE 2K Battlegrounds felt like a spiritual successor to WWE All-Stars but not nearly as iconic. While WWE All-Stars was considered to be a commercial failure the game has managed to gain a cult following over the past decade.
