Its hard to believe that Skyrim was released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC fifteen years ago. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the highly anticipated to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game from 2008. The Skyrim much like 2011 was awesome mainly because there were countless gameplay features that kept players addicted to it. Skyrim had almost everything you could ask for including a vast open-world along with alluring graphics and level designs. The gameplay mechanics in Skyrim felt deep because players had so many options in relation to race selection, weaponry, side-quests along with decision-making in relation to the main story which was arguable the greatest feature in the game. The realism included in Skyrim was insane because it had so much depth to it. The race players selected shaped the interactions they had with other NPC’s and players got a chance to improve their skills in categories such as: Magic, Stealth and Combat.

The ability for players to choose their alignment regarding the war between Imperial Region and Stormcloaks was also pretty cool and gave players more power to control the narrative of the main story. Skyrim came out during a time period where RPG’s were starting to become the most popular genre in the gaming world. While older RPG’s of the 90’s and 2000’s focused heavily on gameplay newer ones during the 10’s began to focus more on depth and immersion which is what we got in Skyrim. After players defeated the main antagonist Aludin they could continue playing the game as the last Dragonborn. Elder Scrolls: V: Skyrim was not only an improvement from its prequel in 2008 but it managed to surpass that title in almost every way imaginable. Its been almost two decades since Skyrim was released and the gaming community talks about far more than Oblivion.

Since its release back in the early 10’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had managed to sell at least 60 million copies worldwide across multiple different gaming platforms within the past three generations. Skyrim is considered to be among the best-selling video games to have emerged from the 10’s decade along with the likes of Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was without a doubt Bethesda’s greatest game ever especially considering the time period it was released in. If anything Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the few role-playing games that helped put the RPG genre on the map during the 10’s decade. The Elder Scrolls series began ’94 and it felt like the franchise had only appealed to a niche audience of PC gamers before Skyrim became very popular. However, PC gaming had been rapidly evolving since the 90’s and by the early 10’s players began showing greater preference for playing video games on computers. The increasing popularity of PC games definitely played a role in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim being a commercial success. The quality of Skyrim was so top-tier that it felt ahead of its time far exceeding most modern AAA video games that we see nowadays.
