The announcement regarding Paramount deal with Warner Bros. Discovery is something that shocked both the gaming and the entertainment industry in late February 2026. Back in 2025 Warner Bros. Discovery had reportedly rejected multiple attempts to be bought out Paramount due to their financial woes. Warner Bros. Discovery was originally set to be bought out by Netflix a deal that was worth over $82 billion. However, Paramount has came up with a deal that Warner Bros. Discover could not turn down worth over $110 billion that includes $31 per share. The Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery deal mainly emphasizes streaming and is expected to merge Paramount with HBO Max. When Warner Bros. Discovery was in the process of being bought out by Netflix there were many hardcore DC and Mortal Kombat fans who were fearful about both IP’s becoming more woke under Netflix. There also the fear that premium subscription prices would increase dramatically if the Netflix-Warner Bros merger went through. If the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery deal goes though subscription prices for Paramount + could increase but fans of WB would probably be happy that its less likely to be woke.

However, similar to Netflix it seems like Paramount Skydance has almost little to no interest in Warner Bros. gaming division. In 2024, Warner Bros gaming division lost around $384 million with the Suicide Squad game from that year costing the company roughly $200 million. There were also other games like Multiversus and Gotham Knights which ended up being massive flops costing Warner Bros more financially. The last really good games that Warner Bros produced that were profitable were Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 from 2023. If Warner Bros is unable to put out profitable games in the present then the future of their game division looks grim. In early-2025 Warner Bros had cancelled a Wonder Woman game that was announced back in 2021. Warner Bros also shut down three gaming studios in a cost-cutting effort because they wanted to focus more on profitable IP’s. While Paramount executives have not spoke openly about Warner Bros gaming division many feel the company might get rid of it altogether. Warner Bros shutting down their gaming division entirely would be devastating to those who wanted to see an Injustice 3 or sequels to games like Batman: Arkham Knight or Mortal Kombat 1.

While Paramount would definitely be interested in DC and Mortal Kombat IP’s in relation to streaming the same might not be case in relation to video games. If Warner Bros decide to take a gamble and put out another high profile Batman, Mortal Kombat or Harry Potter in the future then Paramount might think twice about getting rid of the gaming division if they achieve massive commercial success. The $110 million merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to finalize by Q3 2026. If Warner Bros. Discovery does not shut down their entire gaming division before the merger with Paramount Skydance is complete then their might be hope for potential games like Injustice 3 in the future.
