Its hard to believe that its been 15 years since Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was released. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions came out during the PS3/Xbox 360 era of gaming and it also made an appearance on game systems such as Wii, PC and Nintendo DS. There is no question that the PS3/Xbox 360 version Shattered Dimensions was superior. Shattered Dimensions was published by Activision and developed by Beenox and is considered to be one of the better Spider-Man titles that we got before the critically acclaimed PS4 Marvel’s Spider-Man game from 2018. Shattered Dimensions was one of the few Spider-Man titles due to its variety. Shattered Dimensions allowed people to play as four different versions of Spider-Man in different worlds fighting iconic Marvel bosses. Players had the ability to control characters like Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider, Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Man Noir in various levels. Despite, Shattered Dimensions being linear the level designs looked amazing for its time and the game itself was easy enough for casuals to complete within a week or so. The lack of difficulty is actually one of the few complaints people have in regards to Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

However, the lack of difficulty along with its presentation is what added its appeal. The cel-shaded graphics added more life to Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions because it looked like something straight out of a comic book. Also, the PS3/Xbox 360 era aesthetics made Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions feel like more like an actual video game opposed to a 3D action-adventure titles we see in this day and age. Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions had at least 15 different levels and 180 different challenges that allowed players to unlock new moves, new costumes along with other perks. The story for Shattered Dimensions may have lacked depth but seeing Mysterio as the main villain was kinda cool. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was considered a massive improvement from the games we got during the 2000’s. In fact, Shattered Dimensions was even better than Spider-Man: Edge of Time which came out in 2011. While Spider-Man: Edge of Time was considered to be a spiritual successor to Shattered Dimensions the game was critically panned for the most part.

Despite, not being a massive commercial success a copy of Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is very expensive nowadays since it had been delisted online back in 2014. Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions being delisted from online storefronts like Steam, Sony and Xbox is due to Activision losing the license for Marvel games. Even though, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is one of those superhero action-adventure titles that deserves a current generation remake its something that is very unlikely to happen. Not only did Activision lose the license for Marvel games the company is arguably past its prime in terms of creating high-profile profitable video games. Activision had arguably peaked during the early 2010s in terms of creating awesome video games and nowadays it seems like gamers are fed up with the company in general. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions might not be nowhere near as good as the two Marvel Spider-Man games from ’18 and ’23; but its still considered to be one of the better Spider-Man entries from the 2010’s decade.
