Its hard to believe that it has been fifteen years since the first Call of Duty: Black Ops game was released. The original Call of Duty: Black Ops was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2010. The first Black Ops game came year after Activision released the critically acclaimed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game back in 2009. Call of Duty: Black Ops was one of the most popular entries within its own franchise in relation to the 2010’s decade alongside its sequel Black Ops II from 2012. Blacks Ops I was a game that would definitely be one many gamers top ten list in relation to best installments within the Call of Duty franchise because of good the story, gameplay, weapons and graphics were during the early 2010’s Black Ops I was a game that came out around the time the Call of Duty series was arguably within its peak of popularity during the late 00’s-early 10’s. The story for Black Ops featured multiple protagonists including Alex Mason and Frank Woods who were both CIA operatives along with James Hudson who also a key part of the game’s story.

Black Ops I also featured a man named Viktor Reznov who originally featured in Call of Duty: World at War from 2008 who served as a ally to Alex Hudson. The way the story is told for the campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops I was very intriguing mainly because it featured Alex Manson having to remember events that occurred in past missions through sequences. Black Ops I had around fifteen different missions and among the most popular ones in the game included the “Bay of Pigs and the “Vorkuta Prision Break.” The mission that probably stood out the most to many players was “Operation 40” where players had to assassinate Fidel Castro. The “Operation 40” mission was one that initially received backlash from the Cuban government back in 2010. The main antagonist in the first Black Ops game was a Soviet General named Nikita Dragonvich who planned on launching a chemical weapon called the Nova 6 on America.

Black Ops I was set in the 1960’s during the Cold War and one of Dragonvich’s goals involved assassinating the President at the time JFK. Black Ops I provided players with multiple world maps in different countries such as: America, Vietnam, Cuba and the Soviet Union now known as Russia. Despite, the Castro controversy in relation to Black Ops I the game overall still ended up being a massive commercial success in America. Not only was the story for Black Ops I compelling but the multiplayer game modes added to the game’s overall replay value. Black Ops I featured multiplayer modes including: Team Deathmatch, Dominion, Hardpoint, Free for All, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy along with others which were addictive at the time. Not only did Black Ops I eventually sell more than 30 million copies worldwide it managed to completely blow Battlefield 3 from 2011 out of the water commercially. Electronic Arts Battlefield 3 game only managed to sell around 15 worldwide which showed that they could not compete with popularity of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops I is a game that still stands the test of time more than a decade later and many fans find it shocking that Activision has never made an attempt to remaster it.
