Its hard to believe that Resident Evil 4 was released 20 years ago on GameCube back in 2005. Resident Evil 4 was by far one of Capcom best video games from the 2000s decade. Resident Evil 4 was probably one of the last installments within the franchises that was considered to be “good” before it started to lose its mainstream during the 2010’s prior to RE7: Biohazard from 2017. Resident Evil 4 was a survival-horror game that had a compelling storyline that centered around the main protagonist Leon S. Kennedy. Leon was tasked with rescuing the United States President’s daughter Ashely Graham after she is captured by a religious cult known as Los Illuminados in a unknown rural area of Spain. Resident Evil 4 featured zombies who were once farmers after being infected with the Los Plagas virus with Osmond Saddler being the main villain of the game. Osmond’s main goal was to take over the world with the use of Plagas and did not appear in the game until final act. Not much was known about Osmond other than the fact that he was a bio-weapons research chief. Osmond was not nearly as popular as other villains within the Resident Evil franchise like Albert Wesker who actually made a cameo appearance in RE4. Resident Evil 4 had sixteen different chapters and roughly around 30 different weapons players could use as Leon.

Along with the story almost everything about Resident Evil 4 was solid including the voice acting, dark atmosphere, weaponry and the world design. Resident Evil 4 could have had more success on GameCube if the console was not a commercial failure. While Resident Evil 4 only sold over 1.6 million on GameCube the 2023 remake on the PS5, PC and Xbox Series X sold more than 10 million units worldwide. There are many people who believe that Resident Evil 4 was the best entry within its series during the 2000’s and is almost as good as RE2 from ’98. Leon S. Kennedy is considered to be one of the most beloved characters within the franchise by fans of Resident Evil. Fans seemed to be more connected with Leon than they are other protagonists like Ethan Winters, Jill Valentine or even Chris Redfield depending on who you ask. Resident Evil 4 was one of those titles that had stood the test of time since its original release to the point where the remake ended up being one of the best selling video games of the 2020’s so far. Even though, Resident Evil 4 was released almost a quarter of a century ago it still remains one of the most survival-horror games of all-time.
