Its hard to believe that its been 20 years since Sonic Rush came out on the Nintendo DS. Sonic Rush is a game that does not get talked about nearly as much as it should because it came out during a dark time period of the Sonic franchise. After Sonic Adventure 2 from ’01 it seemed like the popularity of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise slowly began to fade. Sonic Rush was a game that stood out because it was one of the first titles within its series to utilize 2.5D gameplay with 3D graphics. Sonic Rush felt like a Sonic the Hedgehog game if it appeared on the N64 mainly because of the visuals. While Sonic Rush was praised for its graphics back in 2005 its something that has seemingly aged poorly 20 years later. Sonic Rush did not look as polished as what we got in the Sonic Advance series from ’02-’04 on Game Boy Advance in terms of graphics. Also, some believe that Sonic Rush should have had more playable characters aside from Blaze the Cat.

Even though, Sonic fans initially liked Blaze and its quite possible that Sega excluded characters like Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose to put more focus on her. Despite, the praise Sonic Rush got 20 years ago on the Nintendo DS it ended up being a commercial failure. Sonic Rush was unable to sell more than one million copies worldwide and was most likely overshadowed by games like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl which sold millions. If Sonic Rush was released during a different generation on another game system it could have possibly have been more profitable. Its shocking that Sega did not remaster or remake Sonic Rush but since the title only appeals to a niche audience of gamers it seems unlikely to happen. A Sonic Rush 2 would be interesting but seems like Sega has completely forgotten about Blaze while focusing on the original main cast of Sonic characters.
